Police commander shot, killed outside Playa del Carmen home

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A police commander of Solidaridad was shot and killed early Saturday morning outside his home in Playa del Carmen.

The shooting was reported at 9:00 a.m. when commander of seguridad pública municipal, José del Carmen Rodríguez Madrazo, was shot along with his wife outside their home in the residential area of Plamas I.

Witness reports say that two men on a motorcycle were responsible for the shooting that killed the commander and seriously injured his wife who was rushed to hospital but later died that evening.

In a public message, the secretary general of City Council, Alfredo Paz Cetina along with the director general of Public Safety and Transit, Martín Estrada Sánchez and accompanying commanders, condemned the assassination of Rodríguez Madrazo and affirmed that the crime will not go unpunished.

On Sunday, the commander was laid to rest. During the funeral, Commander Martin Estrada said “It is a very sad day for all of us. The blue blood companions are in mourning. I met Commander José del Carmen Rodríguez Madrazo 17 years ago. He was a dedicated man, worker, a good friend, active in all arrests. We are sad but this makes us stronger.”

He also made an appeal to all elements of the corporation. “We are going to do synergy, to unite so that this does not go unpunished. We will continue fighting those who have done so much damage to Mexico.

“Today, José del Carmen Rodríguez Madrazo leaves us, but we are going to work hard in his name.”

Rodriguez Madrazo was the commander of the Motorized Police and was the one who led the arrest of the seven subjects in the Colonia Nueva Creacion / 28 de Julio last week.

This attack is allegedly due to the latest arrests made by the municipal police of Solidaridad together with the seizures of drugs and the permanent surveillance they have in the neighborhoods.
