Cozumel, Q.R. — Police collected evidence from the scene of a shooting on the island of Cozumel Friday night. Several shell casings were lifted from the scene where armed men took aim at an island resident.
The shooting happened off Rafael E. Melgar Avenue on the south corner in front of Benito Juárez Park around midnight. The target, an unidentified adult male, was located in the San Miguel clinic after being shot.
Island authorities have not said where on his body the man was shot or how many times.
Armed men opened fired against their target meters from the entrance to the San Miguel ferry dock. Investigative police had the area sectioned off late Friday while they collected evidence.
The area is reportedly outfitted with three video surveillance cameras. Cozumel Police have not made a public comment on the attempted execution.
