Police chase in Cancun leads to arrest of suspects in ATM theft

Cancun, Q.R. — A police chase in Cancun led to the successful arrest of two alleged gang members responsible for the theft of an ATM machine.

Police report recognizing the vehicle as being detailed in a robbery while they were surveying the Hacienda Real del Caribe subdivision of Cancun. It was on Leona Vicario Avenue where they saw the vehicle being driven by two suspects.

The chase began after the vehicle failed to comply with a police stop request. The intense chase started when the driver of the vehicle instead accelerated while his passenger began firing at police. The pair were finally stopped and arrested at 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Lakin and Miguel Hidalgo Avenues.

Inside their vehicle, state police found a dismantled ATM machine that was reported stolen four days before from Mi Plaza Héroes in Supermanzana 215 of Cancun.

Reports say that after withdrawing the cash, the two suspects were on their way to tossing the machine away when they were intercepted by police.
