Playa del Carmen’s Punta Esmeralda now inclusive for the disabled

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen’s popular beach area of Punta Esmeralda is now an inclusive beach for the disabled.

Blanca Cuervo Amaya, coordinator of the Centro de Reintegración Municipal, says the beach is equipped with specialized equipment and personnel to serve people with different types of disabilities so they can also enjoy the beach and its facilities.

Cuervo Amaya said that Punta Esmeralda now has amphibious equipment as well as beds and umbrellas which can be used from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. by the four specialized on-site staff. She says the new equipment will serve approximately 300 disabled people per month, however in high season, she says that figure will be closer to 500.

The cost for the equipment was an investment of more than 800,000 peso.
