Playa del Carmen to inaugurate Playa 72 as the city’s official and first pet friendly beach

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Solidaridad Municipal trustee Adrián Pérez Vega says Playa 72 will be inaugurated as the city’s official dog beach. He said the current government headed by Lili Campos intends to set a precedent in animal welfare by inaugurating the municipality’s first pet-friendly beach.

Playa 72 is located in the Colosio neighborhood and is currently an unofficial dog beach. However, Pérez Vega says the municipality intends to inaugurate the beach as officially dog-friendly after the publication of the new regulations in the Official Gazette of Quintana Roo.

Once the regulations are published in the Periódico Oficial de Quintana Roo, pet owners visiting Playa 72 with their dogs must meet certain requirements. Dogs must be dewormed and vaccinated, kept on a leash at all times and owners must carry bags to collect the feces.

Playa 72 is currently the city’s unofficial pet friendly beach.

He says the new regulations aim to ensure the safety and well-being of both pets and people who frequent the beach. The provision to enable Playa 72 as a pet-friendly resort was approved at the 68th ordinary session of the Solidaridad City Council on July 19.

New regulations will mean all dogs must be leashed.

The decision to inaugurate the beach as officially dog friendly was in conjunction with local organizations Dog Beach Playa del Carmen and Ciudadanos Animalovers.
