Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A report to Emergency 911 of a shooting along the federal highway led police to find a taxi driver laying in the middle of the road.
The call came through around 9:20 p.m. Thursday when emergency personnel were dispatched to the report of a shooting at the junction of 2nd Street and the 307 Federal Highway in Playa del Carmen. When police arrived, they confirmed finding a man with bullet wounds laying on the road.
The man was a taxi driver with Lázaro Cárdenas del Río union of Solidaridad. Unofficial reports say that a lone male got out of his car and began shooting at the taxi car and driver, hitting it several times.
The driver of the taxi was taken to hospital but died en route.
Ministerial police continue with their investigation.
