Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Two people have been taken into police custody after a roadway shootout in Playa del Carmen Monday.
The pair were arrested by police after they caused an accident while chasing and firing at an SUV along Arco Vial in the west part of the city. The two men were chasing the SUV when the driver failed to stop at a red light, crashing into a pickup truck.
That intersection crash left two injured. The pair abandoned their vehicle and ran into a private home in the residential subdivision of Los Olivos. Police surrounded the home until they were able to enter and eventually arrest the pair.
The two taken into custody have been identified as 30-year-old Rosendo Alberto P.R. and 34-year-old Marcos Antonio A.O.
The two were reportedly chasing a vehicle being driven by the son of an alleged leader of the criminal cell Negro Nava. He was hit in the leg during the roadway chase and taken to hospital.
