Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — As part of a social and crime prevention program, Playa del Carmen criminal offenders spent several days cleaning residential areas to ensure safety and security for its residents.
Escorted by guards, the offenders participated in the Rescue of Public Spaces program of la Dirección General de Seguridad Pública y Tránsito de Solidaridad, where they were sent out to cut weeds and generally clean public spaces.
According to Participación Ciudadana y Prevención del Delito, “administrative personnel of the corporation with support and participation of area residents, as well as criminal offenders of the Civic Courts, conducted the cleaning of weeds of parks and their surroundings with the goal of maintaining perimeter visibility for greater safety so citizens feel safe when using the recreational parks and its facilities.”
The group, who were under the care of la Policía Municipal, spent several days cleaning Villas del Sol, el Petén, la Guadalupana as well as areas in Ejido and the Delegación de Puerto Aventuras.
