Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Emergency services attended to the scene of a passenger bus that ran off the highway and into the jungle. The accident happened Sunday when the driver was transporting tourists to a Riviera Maya theme park.
According to preliminary information, a loud bang was heard seconds before the bus was forced off the highway. On Sunday afternoon, emergency personnel arrived to find the bus had crashed through a fence as it came to a stop.
The driver was transporting a group of tourists to the Xcaret Xel-Há park in Riviera Maya when the accident happened. Everyone on board managed to get out of the bus without any injuries being reported.
Passing motorists stopped to help those on the bus get out while they waited for emergency personnel.
People on board reported hearing a loud explosion before the bus drove off the highway. Authorities have not provided an official source of the explosion heard or an official cause for the afternoon mishap.
