Parque del Sol planned for Cozumel land

Cozumel, Q.R. — A new seaside park is scheduled for construction at Cozumel on land that was once tied up in a legal battle.

Frida Adriana Payan Rodríguez, director of Public Works, explained that the land earmarked for the new park was in litigation between the city and a businessman, however, the city won and has since applied for an environmental permit to construct the park.

Payan Rodríguez said that the seaside project, Parque del Sol, will consist of a retaining wall, sculpture, benches and picnic tables, adding that they are also considering the construction of an amphitheater for cultural events.

The park will be built in an area where people can enjoy the sea view at dusk or watch cruise ships pass the island.

She says that the park will cost around five million peso, is scheduled to begin construction in April and should take around five months to complete.
