Cozumel, Q.R. — Police from the Kidnapping and Extortion division have arrested two men. The pair, according to Cozumel police, were arrested in flagrante delicto Tuesday.
Police have reported Martín “N” and Carlos “N” being captured during an operation implemented by agents of the Prosecutor’s Office after employees of the premises reported that, since November 16 of this year, they had been receiving extortion calls demanding the amount of 3,000 pesos for so-called “floor rights.”
The pair were arrested during a sting operation while collecting money from the victim’s home.
Both men remain in custody “for their alleged participation in acts that could constitute the crime of extortion, to the detriment of a commercial business,” they said.
The men were arrested when “following the corresponding complaint, elements of the Investigative Police followed up on the extortion phone calls, managing to arrest the alleged extortionists in flagrante delicto at the victim’s home.”
