Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — An attack on a bar Monday night in Playa del Carmen has left one dead and 11 injured in what police are saying was over floor-right payments.
La Dirección General de Seguridad Pública y Tránsito de Solidaridad has confirmed the attack against Cervecería Chapultepec located on Constituyentes Avenue and 100 Street in the Ejidal neighborhood in the far western region of Playa del Carmen.
Police say two armed men approached the establishment and began shooting from outside, killing one and injuring 11. Municipal, state and ministerial police along with members of the Mexican Army and the Navy arrived to cordon off the area.
According to the General Directorate of Public Safety and Traffic, the attack was revenge, motivated by floor-right payments.
In a statement, the Fiscalía General del Estado de Quintana Roo said “This corporation condemns these acts and is committed to work hand-in-hand with the ministerial authorities in the investigations to find those responsible.”
Fiscalía General del Estado de Quintana Roo reported that at least two people fired from the outside the building Monday night for the alleged collection of floor-right fees. So far there are 11 people injured and one deceased.
The FGE has initiated an investigation.
