Nuevo Vallarta renamed to Nuevo Nayarit announces incoming governor

Nuevo Nayarit, Nayariat — The Nayarit government decreed that the renowned tourist destination of Nuevo Vallarta will now be called Nuevo Nayarit. The incoming governor defended the name change in order to position the state with the travel community.

Incoming governor, Miguel Ángel Navarro Quintero made the decision at the beginning of the year. He said the change of name was made as a sign of the demarcation with the neighboring state of Jalisco. He said a few days ago, he signed an alliance with Baja California, Baja California Sur, Sonora and Sinaloa, called Alianza del Mar de Cortés.

Quintero said that name change is expected to help position the Mexican Pacific seaside area with international travelers by placing it in the top three most-visited in the country after Cancun and Los Cabos.

Nuevo Vallarta has been the name used to identify the adjacent area where the hotel zone of Puerto Vallarta was extended in the state of Nayarit. This area is filled with developed resorts along 309 kilometers of beach as a gateway to the renowned Riviera Nayarit.

Quintero says he has already registered the name change from Nuevo Vallarta to the new Nuevo Nayarit brand with Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial and sealed the alliance with the states governed by his colleagues.

He said Alianza del Mar de Cortés will have a complete work agenda that includes promotion and sales, public relations, congresses and conventions, major events, tourist routes and a participant statistics centre, as well as the Mar de Cortés Tourist Brand and joint participation in the next Tianguis Turístico Acapulco 2022.

Nuevo Vallarta, now Nuevo Nayarit, is a Pacific resort on Banderas Bay just north of Puerto Vallarta.
