No injuries reported after tourist bus with 19 on board catches fire in Cancun Hotel Zone

Cancun, Q.R. — Nineteen people on an Xcaret bus were transferred to another unit after their bus caught fire. The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday while the company bus was transferring tourists to one of its parks.

While in the Cancun Hotel Zone, the bus experienced a mechanical failure that lead to it catching fire. According to a statement from Grupo Xcaret, the driver of the bus pulled over along Kukulcán Boulevard when he noticed smoke coming from his unit.

All 19 passengers were taken off that bus, and within minutes, transferred onto another Xcaret company bus to continue to their destination.

“Unfortunately, the mechanical failure of the bus led to a fire that ended up completely consuming the unit, a situation that was promptly addressed by emergency services.

“By 8:30 a.m., the fire department had already controlled the fire, which was completely extinguished by 9:00 a.m.,” they reported.

“Grupo Xcaret can confirm that, due to the prompt response of all those involved, no one was injured in any way, except for the unit.”
