Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado has sworn in a new Secretary of Citizen Security (SSC) leader. The swearing in ceremony took place Friday night after a city council meeting.
Carlos A. Montesinos García is the new head of the municipal SSC (Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana). Estefanía Mercado announced the change in leadership Friday night as part of a new phase in the institutional strengthening of the public security model promoted by the municipal government.
Carlos Montesinos is from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGE). He was appointed as the new Secretary of Citizen Security. According to the Mayor, he is a civilian with extensive experience in the justice system and a deeply humane and technical approach.
“This is an important step. Carlos Montesinos arrives with a vision we share, which is to build a more humane, more accessible police force with greater inter-institutional coordination and profound respect for human rights,” the Mayor said.
The change was made after the resignation of Raúl Tassinari González.
Mercado expressed her gratitude to Commander Raúl Tassinari. She said Tassinari will continue to serve Quintana Roo in new public roles, contributing to peacebuilding in the state.
Estefanía Mercado emphasized that this change is driven by a clear vision, which is to strengthen what has been achieved and advance toward greater efficiency and closer ties to citizens.
During his swearing in ceremony, Carlos Montesinos said “I assume this responsibility with the utmost commitment. We will work with order, closeness and respect for human rights.
“Our mission will be to care for the people, strengthen trust and build peace from the ground up. I am here to serve, to listen and to work with everyone for a safer and more humane Playa del Carmen.”
Carlos Montesinos will serve the position of SCC leader until September 2027.
