Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A new General Hospital has been announced for the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa made the announcement Thursday with IMSS General Director Zoé Robledo.
Robledo, who heads the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), said the new hospital will be double the size of the one it will replace, going from 30 beds to 60. The new hospital, he says, “will solve problems of saturation and backlogs in order to provide better health services to Quintana Roo residents.”
Lezama said the new hospital is necessary to keep up with growth and heath care needs. “The current one has been exceeded by the growth and care needs of the general population.” The town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto currently has a population of around 26,000.
She said her government will move forward to promote and obtain the financing necessary for its construction.
