Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has approved the installation of a $2.7 million USD waterpark. The new waterpark is set for seabed installation in front of the Palladium hotel in Costa Mujeres.
The Kanapark Aquatic Park project, a 1,400-square-meter inflatable water park, was approved by Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (Semarnat) to increase the attractions for visitors in Costa Mujeres.
The recreational area, which will be located on the mainland beach area of Isla Mujeres, will consist of 27 anchored inflatables. According to the environmental impact study, the project consists of anchoring inflatable games in a marine area adjacent to the beach front of the hotel development Grand Palladium Paraíso Mujeres Resort and Spa located on the Chacmuchuch Peninsula.
The 27 the floating components will be interconnected, forming a circuit which can accommodate up to 90 people at a time. The area will be delimited by means of cylindrical buoys and the installation of anchor deadlocks that will secure the inflatable pieces.
It is the second time the company has applied for installation approval. The project, which was stalled for several years due to environmental issues, has been authorized this time with Semarnat recognizing there will be environmental impacts that must be mitigated.
