Navy reports two arrested for stealing Cozumel ATM

Cozumel, Q.R. — The Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico has reported that personnel from its Cozumel Sector, in coordination with police, have arrested two subjects allegedly related to the theft of an island ATM.

In a statement, la Secretaría de Marina-Armada de México say that the arrests were made after the report of the theft of an ATM at the Puerta Maya cruise ship dock of Cozumel. Emergency 911 received the call that an ATM had been torn from its base by armed subjects driving a black pickup truck, telling emergency personnel that the pair managed to flee with the machine.

Personnel assigned to the Naval Sector of Cozumel, in coordination with the National Guard and the Ministerial Police, took part in the search after the offenders fled aboard their vehicle.

During the persecution, elements of the Mexican Navy were attacked by the alleged offenders, but not injured. The chase ended in a vacant lot where they arrested a man and seized a pick-up truck and a motorcycle.

Later, near Playa Palancar, authorities arrested another male person allegedly related to the theft.

The two men, identified as Jose N and Rashy N, are reportedly being guarded at the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
