Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — An Isla Mujeres woman who received second and third degree burns in an LP gas explosion has died. On Wednesday, a 31 year old woman who was an occupant of the apartment died from her injuries in Cancun hospital.

The explosion happened on the morning of February 10 in a second story apartment in the La Gloria neighborhood of the island. The strong explosion blew out two of the apartment’s windows, sending shattered glass across the street.
There were four people in the apartment at the time of the explosion. Three of them were rushed to Isla Mujeres hospital but transferred to Cancun later that same day.
One of them, Tania “N”, a one-and-a-half-year-old girl, was transferred to Mexico City for specialized medical care two days later. She received burns on 60 percent of her body and remains in hospital.
On Wednesday, a woman from inside the apartment identified as 31-year-old Mercy Vianey “N” died from her injuries. She was in intensive care at the General Hospital of Cancun when she died.
Mercy “N” was the mother of Tania “N”, the little girl who was transferred to Mexico City for specialized medical treatment.

Another woman identified as 24-year-old María de los Ángeles “N” remains in Cancun hospital. According to available information, she is in an induced coma with burns covering 50 percent of her body.
