Akumal, Q.R. — A minivan that overturned on the highway outside Akumal Saturday, saw at least three taken to hospital before it caught fire.
The accident happened at 5:40 p.m. outside Akumal when the vehicle suddenly overturned in busy afternoon traffic. Numerous people got out of their vehicles to assist the toppled unit, managing to turn it back upright before officials arrived on scene.
At least three people from inside the vehicle had to be transferred to hospitals in Playa del Carmen. The vehicle was emptied of its occupants before it caught fire.
Preliminary reports say the vehicle was transporting a family of six when a tire suddenly blew. The fire completely engulfed the vehicle before firemen were able to put it out.
