Riviera Maya, Q.R. — Michelin Guide has awarded three Quintana Roo restaurants for their excellence. Another four were awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition, an award to restaurants that offer high-quality food at a reasonable price.
Thirteen other restaurants around the state received recommendations. Governor Mara Lezama said the awards position Quintana Roo restaurants worldwide, reaffirming the quality of local gastronomy prepared by extraordinary women and men.
She says the awards and recommendations highlight the talent of chefs, cooks, waiters, bartenders and all the staff involved in the gastronomic experience of Quintana Roo.
The three restaurants that received Michelin Guide stars are Cocina de Autor Riviera Maya in Playa del Carmen, Le Chique in Puerto Morelos and HA’, also in Playa del Carmen. The restaurants were chosen for the quality of the products used, mastery of culinary techniques, harmony of flavors, personality of the chef expressed in the dish and consistency in time and the menu as a whole.
Four Quintana Roo restaurants were awarded Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. Those restaurants include Axiote, Cetli, Mestixa and Punta Corcho, recognition given to restaurants where the cuisine stands out above its category while maintaining reasonable prices.
Thirteen other restaurants around the state were recommended by Michelin Guide. Those restaurants include Arca, Autor, Bu’ul, Casa Banana, El Fogón, Hartwood, Kiosco Verde, La Casa De Las Mayoras, María Dolores, NÜ Tulum, Posada Margherita, Wild and Woodend.
During the award ceremony Monday night, Governor Lezama said “what is not visible does not exist, so we have to tell the world that we have great gastronomy, extraordinary women and men, cooks, and regional products that are combined by those wonderful hands and become works of art in each dish.
“Today I am extremely proud to present these awards granted by the prestigious Michelin Guide. From the first day of this government, we worked to include Quintana Roo in the Michelin Guide. It seems inconceivable that it took 50 years and a female governor to have the state included in the Michelin Guide,” she said.
Mara Lezama highlighted that the state’s gastronomy is a testament to the culinary delights that can be experienced in the 12 tourist destinations of the 11 municipalities of Quintana Roo. Michelin Guide lists their Quintana Roo restaurant selections.
