Mexican Navy evacuate cruise ship passenger suffering heart attack

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A woman was transferred from a cruise ship to a Cancun hospital Tuesday in a medical evacuation. The 84 year old was removed from the ship for hospital care after suffering an acute myocardial infarction.

Elements of the Mexican Navy, acting as Coast Guard, conducted the evacuation off the coast of Isla Mujeres.

According to officials, the emergency was reported through a call from the cruise ship, requesting assistance for the care and transfer of an 84-year-old woman who had suffered an acute myocardial infarction.

In response, a Defender-class vessel was dispatched from the Isla Mujeres Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR Mujeres). The vessel met the cruise ship with naval medical personnel on board.

Upon arrival at the ship, naval personnel performed the corresponding medical assessment and proceeded with the evacuation of the patient, who was then transported to Puerto Juárez.

On land, the woman was met by a private ambulance and transported to a hospital in Cancun for continued specialized medical care.
