Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A man who was shot and killed by gunfire over the weekend has been identified as a city inspector.

On Sunday, a man was shot in the chest through a side window of the car his wife was driving. He died shortly after arriving at hospital. The shooting occurred by an unknown gunman along Balam Street with Tonán Ku in the Tumbenchilán subdivision of Playa del Carmen.

The deceased was later identified as Indersio Cruz Rosales, Dirección de Fiscalización del Ayuntamiento de Solidaridad.

Playa del Carmen mayor, Laura Beristain, condems the murder of her colleague and the events in which this Sunday they lost a member of their Dirección de Cobranza y Fiscalización team on his day off.

She is demanding facts be investigated through the State Attorney General’s Office and that those responsible be found. “As a government, we will contribute, within our sphere of competence, to the clarification of this unfortunate event.

“We join the grief that consumes the family of our comrade Indersio Cruz Rosales, and we stand in solidarity with them in these difficult times.

“As a government, we will continue to work for the safety of all the people of Solidaridad and the necessary measures will be taken so that events such as the one we are dealing with now, do not continue to happen,” she said.
