Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — A palapa collapse at a Playa del Carmen beach club caused some guests to panic and hotel workers to scramble after the large wood and grass structure came crashing down.
The collapse happened at the Maroma Adventures beach club when a massive palapa roof collapsed during the heavy rains Tuesday.
A video posted by a guest on site at the time shows an ambulance loading injured. During the mishap, dozens of hotel staff tried to take control of the situation that took tourists, promoters and taxi drivers by surprise.
Reports say that the accident was not reported to authorities, however, since the release of the video, the Directorate of Civil Protection of Solidaridad says they will initiate the relevant investigations so that the center fully complies with the required security protocol.
The video was filmed by a vacationer who uploaded it to social networks, which shows that the large structure that served as a roof at the entrance of Club Maroma completely collapsed.
