Cozumel, Q.R. — An element of the Mexican Navy rescued a young man from the churning sea Wednesday. Marina personnel swam out to where the young swimmer was reported having difficulty while in the water Christmas Day.
In a brief statement, the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) through the Mexican Navy acting as Coast Guard, reported that personnel from the Cozumel Naval Sector within the framework of the Operation Lifeguard Winter 2024, rescued a minor off Playa Chen Rio.
Marina personnel swam out “when elements noticed that near the shore, a minor of Mexican nationality was swept away by the current, in the vicinity of Chen Río beach, so naval personnel came to his rescue, later taking him to a safe area.”
The young man was found in good health despite being tired from being dragged by the current. “Since he was in good health, he was handed over to his family,” they reported.
