Marina personnel assist drifting dinghy off coast of Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Two people who found themselves drifting due to a failed motor were rescued in their dinghy. The Mexican Navy, acting as Coast Guard, were alerted to the need for assistance off the coast of Isla Mujeres Thursday afternoon.

The request for help was received through the Fifth Naval Region, who were quickly able to locate the small boat during a patrol. Once at the location, Marina personnel provided support, working to restart the motor.

Once restarted, the two young men were able to get themselves to the Bay of Isla Mujeres.

In a statement, the Marina said their rescue “was carried out when personnel from the Isla Mujeres Naval Search, Rescue, and Maritime Surveillance Station (ENSAR), during a maritime surveillance patrol, detected a small vessel adrift due to outboard motor failure.

“Therefore, naval personnel provided support to the individuals and the vessel, successfully restarting it so it could then continue its journey to Isla Mujeres Bay.”
