Cancun, Q.R. — An investigation into the murder of a man on a Cancun Hotel Zone beach Wednesday has lead police to a previous murder. Authorities have reported those involved in the Wednesday shooting death of the man are related to another Cancun Hotel Zone shooting that happened in July.
“A relationship has been established with the July 28 event this year in which a minor lost his life in the same area,” the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) reported.
They said the Wednesday murder of the man, a Mexican national, is drug related, as was the July beach shooting that left a 12 year old boy dead after being accidently struck by a stray bullet. The shooter(s) then fled the area on a waiting jet ski.
In an official statement Wednesday, the State Attorney General (FGE) confirmed the man who drove the getaway jet ski in the July shooting that left a 12 year old local boy dead is the same man gunned down Wednesday.
The FGE says the man shot Wednesday morning on Playa Caracol in the Cancun Hotel Zone was related to criminal activity that involved drug dealing. He, along with at least two others, have also been connected to the shooting of two people on a Cancun city bus on July 1.
The FGE says their task now is to find the two men responsbile for the murder of the man Wednesday morning. The now-deceased, who was left laying in the sand, has not been identified.
On Wednesday morning, two men approached the man on foot behind the Riu Palace Las Americas in the Cancun Hotel Zone and shot him before running up the beach where they escaped on a jet ski.
The FGE has called the Wednesday morning shooting “a direct attack” against the now-deceased.
“In this event, the Prosecutor’s Office maintains as its first line of investigation the one related to drug dealing,” they reported.
