Cancun, Q.R. — Cancun Police continue to investigate the broad daylight murder of two people on a city bus. A young man and woman were shot to death Monday on a public bus traveling Kukulkan Boulevard in the Cancun Hotel Zone.
According to local authorities, the targeted shooting was drug related. Those responsible fled the bus, managing a successful escape.
“The FGE reports that it has opened an investigation for the crime of qualified homicide of two people which occurred in a public transport unit that was circulating Monday on Kukulcán Boulevard in Cancun.
“The corresponding authorities worked on the site to clarify the events. The first line of investigation indicates that this event is related to the crime of drug dealing and that the death of one of the victims was due to collateral damage.
“The Attorney General of the State (FGE), as a member of the State Coordination for the Construction of Peace and Security in Quintana Roo, reaffirms its commitment to bring those who break the law to justice,” the Fiscalía General del Estado (FGE) reported in a statement.
Elements of the Mexican Army, National Guard and elements of Citizen Security were at the Monday afternoon scene. A single lane of traffic was open as police investigated the 1:00 p.m. shooting.
