Cozumel, Q.R. — An elderly man died off the island of Cozumel over the weekend after he drowned while diving.
The drowning happened at Kilometer 7.5 in the southern area of the island. Paramedics were called to the beach outside a hotel at 10:19 a.m. where they found a 64-year-old man deceased. Responding paramedic Marco Zavala verified that they arrived to assist a man who was reportedly on the shore of the beach, however, he was found without vital signs.
The man has been identified as Sergio López Padilla, a doctor vacationing from León Guanajuato. He is the first reported drowning in the state since the reopening of hotel and tourist activities.
