Cancun, Q.R. — UPDATED: After hearing shots being fired, police raced to the area where they arrested a man they found carrying two assault rifles in broad daylight.
The man was taken into custody after he allegedly claimed he wanted to kill a woman. The man, who has not been identified, was searched and arrested when police found him carrying two weapons, an AR-15 and AK-47 with cartridges.
The shots were heard behind the Transfiguración de Nuestro Señor chapel ion Págalo Avenue in Cancun.
Police taped off the area where, after a search, they reported finding several bullet casings.
UPDATE: In a public statement, State Attorney General Óscar Montes de Oca and State Public Safety Secretary Jesús Alberto Capella Ibarra revealed that the arrested man, 32-year-old Pedro N, is part of a cartel.
“Yesterday, a complaint was received by 911 in which firearms were reported in Region 153 on Págalo Street in the municipality of Benito Juárez. Police moved in and it was on Pinzón Street where they located a subject that persecuted three women.
“They detained Pedro N who was secured with two long weapons. He has a rape complaint and alleged links with the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel,” they explained.
