Mahahual plane crash leaves two dead

Mahahual, Q.R. — A small Cessna that crashed just after takeoff Saturday morning has left both of its passengers deceased.

The crash of the small 210 aircraft occurred about 500 meters from the Mahaual airport. The plane, which was heading for Cancun, was in the process of mechanical maintenance.

It fell from the air mere moments after taking off, landing in the jungle killing both on board. The deceased have been identified as Jorge Lugo, the plane’s pilot and his mechanic, Víctor Olivas.

The accident was recorded by C4 at 11:48 a.m. An area of the Mahahual-Cafetal highway was cordoned off by the army while Civil Protection and paramedics arrived to rescue the bodies of the two deceased.
