Lost Cozumel fishermen located by volunteer rescue boat

Cozumel, Q.R. — Marine authorities in Cozumel say they have located a diver who went missing off island waters Wednesday.

A group of three fishermen were diving off the northern portion of the island Wednesday when one of them failed to resurface. The trio were diving in waters at Faro Molas with their vessel Andrés when the incident occurred.

Fisherman Gerardo Hernández failed to surface with his two companions, which is when authorities were notified and a search launched. Members of the Mexican Navy set out to search waters as did numerous local boats.

It was Thursday afternoon when the announcement came that the fishermen had been picked up by two fishermen in a boat that were part of the rescue team. Hernández was reported to be dehydrated but in overall good condition.

Apparently Hernández became disorientated and got lost during the dive in an area is known for its strong currents.
