Letters to the Editor: Waiting for Royal Caribbean to publish benefits of Perfect Day Mexico

I just read the news article regarding the Perfect Day Mexico development in Mahahual. I found the comment by the Director of Tourism for Quintana Roo very interesting.

Señor Bernardo Riestra said, “It’s a private project. The Governor has instructed us that the company developing it must publicize it so the public knows what the benefits will be.” Wonderful, but the public is waiting and has been waiting for Royal Caribbean to publicize these benefits.

The roads in Mahahual are so pot-holed from taxis, buses etc., that driving is almost impossible. Our electrical infrastructure is an off and on public works project and water is pumped by CAPA in city segments on varying times of the week. This past week, cruise ships brought to Costa Maya 34,343 passengers.

Each passenger was charged a Port Tax of $5.00 USD, $643,587pesos in five days paid to the Alcalde of Othon P. Blanco. As a Residente Permanente, I am very interested in what benefits our community will receive from Royal Caribbean and Perfect Day Mexico?

Steve, Mahahual
