We have been coming to Quintana Roo for many years, over 25 years. Before coming do your homework online. Set up an airport transfer in advance. This eliminates a lot of problems. Cancun Shuttle is a reasonable, reliable option. They wear the orange vests, but book ahead of time.
The private shuttle option is cheaper than a cab. We have been using them for years with not one problem. If you use a taxi ask price before you get in, but check prices online in advance so you know what it should cost.
There is also Happy Cancun Shuttle but they are a little more expensive. Always check taxi prices online first and ask driver before getting in. And please don’t forget to tip, they depend on it.
The Mexican people are the most happy, friendly and nicest you’ll meet. There are a few thieves no matter where you go.
