After this fiasco was rushed out the door last summer, this issue seemed to have gone away. Which is the best idea. This whole “wearing a vest makes it safer” is nothing more than a form of control. If they really care about safety, start enforcing laws and open up some rider training. Same for cars.
Talking and texting on both cars and bikes is out of control. This is a dangerous practice, Lane splitting, wearing these jokes of a helmet ( which offer almost zero protection ), heck even securing the chin strap might help.
What about people coming in from the Yucatan? They will not have vests. What about people with multiple bikes?. Or those with multiple bikes that have family visit and borrow one? As for crimes committed on a bike, good chance they won’t follow the laws as it is. And the possibility that I would have to pay for this is absurd.
No, the area doesn’t need vests, it greatly needs training.
