In response to the letter no more snowbirds in Mexico. You don’t need a car in Mexico. My wife and I bought a house in Puerto Morelos Mexico and we don’t need a car, and don’t have to take taxis or rent a car.
Just take the colectivo very cheap. 40 pesos ( a little over $2 ) one way to Playa del Carmen, which is more than 7km away. They do the driving. The fuel in your car will cost more than that, and that’s not maintenance, insurance etc.
Also there is the bus very reasonable and also the Mayan train, which is a little pricey but sometimes runs specials. Also you can take Uber. So you don’t need to have a Curp number or a car.
There are better options. Pick what works for you. Enjoy Snowbirding in Mexico.
