I wanted to add to the recent Letters To The Editor that other Isla Mujeres residents have written here recently. From what I have read they all express perfectly the major problems with the back up generator here on the island and, specifically, the dangerous location.
I have been coming to Isla Mujeres for over 20 years—contributing to the local economy—and always recommending friends come here. I no longer come as often and never recommend anyone come here given the toxic fumes (and that includes the diesel truck fumes which are constant even when the machine is not running) and, especially, the noise.
Even though my house is not directly close to the machine, I can hear it and it’s impossible to be here when it is running.
It is dangerously loud!
I have a heart condition which is thankfully under control but given the location of this generator, I am considering selling my house and never coming back here.
It would seem that the government of Isla Mujeres—and CFE—simply does not care.
Sincerely,
A VERY unhappy Isla Mujeres Resident
