I have been pleased to read all the letters to the editor that have recently been published regarding the back up generator installed on the airport strip. I would like to chime in too.
Isla Mujeres used to be our go-to vacation. We have been coming here for many years and have enjoyed being here for weeks at a time (and spending a lot of money). But since the back up generator on the airport strip was built (we usually rented a house nearby) there is no way we would consider coming to Isla Mujeres.
We have been here when it is on and it is impossible to accept the noise and fumes coming from that “monster”. Why would my family and friends come here with such a dangerous situation, no matter where on the island we would stay?
And, after reading all these letters to the editor, it is plainly and painfully obvious that neither the electric company but especially the local government care in the least about the health and safety of the airport strip residents or the tourists who come here looking forward to a peaceful and relaxing vacation.
Isla Mujeres? NO MAS!
Very truly yours,
A former visitor
P.S. Move the generator and we might return.
