Key central Playa del Carmen streets now have nighttime travel restrictions

Playa del Carmen, Q.R. — Key central roads in Playa del Carmen have been closed to nighttime traffic. The closure of the seven main streets and avenues comes after weeks of warnings from the governor regarding the continued increase in covid figures.

Jorge Robles, head of the Public Security office says the city has already set up the closures of the seven main veins, which will be off-limits from 10:00 p.m. until 1:00 a.m.

“Derived from the recommendations of Governor Carlos Joaquín González, we are taking these actions to protect citizens from a possible contagion of COVID-19,” he said.

The closed roads run from the intersections of Avenida 30 with avenues Aviación and with streets Tercera Sur, Primera Sur bis, as well as from streets 4 to 14.

Robles explained that these measures were made in coordination with the state Public Security Secretariat and will be of an indefinite nature, depending on the color of the epidemiological traffic light.

“We are in constant interaction with the community so that they take into account health protocols such as maintaining a healthy distance and the correct use of the mask,” added the official. The move is being made to avoid the complete regression back to a red epidemiological light.

Earlier in the week, the city of Cancun also implemented nighttime road closures along several of its key streets and avenues.
