Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A hyperbaric chamber has been repaired and returned to islanders. On Monday, Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, delivered the hyperbaric chamber to the island fishermen.
The much-needed chamber was left abandoned and in need of repair by the previous administration. Ricalde says now that it has been property repaired, “it will be possible to give timely attention to fishermen and citizens who require it.”
She said that during her administration, no effort or resources will be spared to generate well-being, prosperity and a better quality of life for island families.
Isla Mujeres Director of Health, Teresa Gómez Herrera, said that the chamber was given meticulous and exhaustive maintenance as well as the building in which it is located, carrying out the rehabilitation in two stages.
Maintenance was provided to the unit and the machine room, while the building and its contents were rehabilitated in order to provide quality service to fishermen and patients who require it.
The hyperbaric chamber is used by fishermen from Isla Mujeres, Chiquilá, Holbox and Puerto Juárez for decompression syndrome.
Health Director Herrea said the chamber is also used for patients suffering vascular diseases, diabetic feet, sports injuries and inflammatory processes, among others. She said that it has been used 552 times for various treatments.
On Monday, the Isla Mujeres Mayor delivered the certificate of maintenance of the Hyperbaric Chamber to the Fishermen’s Board.
