Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Officers were called to an area of the Continental Zone of Isla Mujeres Monday to confirm a finding. The officers were sent after residents near the Indio Blanco neighborhood reported finding human remains.
The man who found the remains hailed down nearby police who returned with him to the property where they confirmed the finding. Additional officers were sent to protect the scene until forensics arrived to collect the remains.
The finding was made Monday afternoon. Preliminary reports indicate that the remains belong to a man who likely died several months ago.
The remains were collected and transferred where authorities are hoping to make a DNA match to identify the victim.
There were no speculations as to how the man may have died.
