Isla Mujeres police hand over lawbreaker to marina personnel for transfer to mainland

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A man who has been arrested on the island of Isla Mujeres was transported to the mainland for detention. The unidentified man was in handcuffs when he was handed over to Marina personnel Tuesday night.

Both Municipal and Transit police were part of the handover to Marina personnel.

The man was transferred from the island to the mainland late Tuesday night May 5, 2026.

In a report, the Secretary of the Marina reported that through the Fifth Naval Region, naval personnel provided support to the Isla Mujeres Public Security Directorate with the maritime transfer of a suspected lawbreaker.

The transfer was carried out after receiving a call from local law enforcement requesting support. An interceptor patrol boat from the Naval Command was ordered to transfer the man to the mainland at Puerto Juárez.

Once there, the Secretary said he was placed at the disposal of the competent authorities to continue with the corresponding investigation and procedures and determine his legal status.

Authorities did not provide information on his alleged legal offence.
