Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — Isla Mujeres continues it modernization of the Malecón and Avenida de la Rueda Medina on the island. Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde says the area is being transformed.
Atenea Gómez Ricalde is promoting the comprehensive modernization of the Malecón and Avenida de la Rueda Medina that will change its urban landscape into a new, renovated, and modern space.
This is a historic intervention, designed not only to beautify the main avenue but also to fundamentally transform its functionality and safety.
The project includes the complete renovation of curbs and sidewalks, wider and safer pedestrian crossings, new public lighting with efficient technology and the installation of a modern underground wiring system.

The new underground wiring will eliminate the overhead cables that for years, caused visual pollution and hazards.
“Undergrounding the electrical infrastructure offers multiple benefits,” she said. “Greater safety for pedestrians and motorists, reduced vulnerability to weather events, fewer service outages, improved urban planning and a cleaner, more aesthetically pleasing image, befitting a top-tier tourist destination.”
With this comprehensive project, the municipal administration is creating a more accessible, safe and functional avenue. The government is enhancing the quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors, while strengthening the municipality’s tourism competitiveness.
The renovation began a few weeks ago, and its first phase is scheduled to be completed by February 13th. Work will then resume on February 18th, after the carnival festivities conclude.
