Cozumel, Q.R. — In order to provide sustainable mobility alternatives to Cozumel residents, a bicycle-only lane has been added to city streets.
The new bike lane will cover approximately three kilometres of Cozumel territory says island mayor Pedro Joaquín Delbouis. The bike lane will run in both directions from north to south. Director of Public Services Alejandro Alonso Flores, added that the lanes will have reflectors, signage at each intersection, pedestrian crossing markings and No Parking signs for vehicles.
Joaquin Delbuois says the new Carretera Costera Sur cycle path will cover more than three kilometres from 11th Avenue to Avenida Claudio Canto Anduze.
“Since the beginning of this administration, we have sought to promote the sustainable development of Cozumel. Now, with the establishment of restrictive mobility measures to face the Covid-19 pandemic, we want both inhabitants and visitors who are beginning to reach the destination to enjoy this tourist corridor,” he explained adding that “the goal with the project is to promote the use of the bicycle since in these times, health care is of utmost importance.”
