Girl burned in Isla Mujeres apartment LP gas explosion transferred to Mexico City

Isla Mujeres, Q.R. — A girl with severe burns from a recent LP gas explosion inside her apartment has been transferred to Mexico City. The little girl was transferred yesterday after a gas stove in her apartment exploded Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, a powerful explosion caused by gas leak sent three people from inside that apartment to Cancun hospital. The explosion happened in a second story apartment in the center the island.

Municipal Civil Protection reported a total of four people injured, however, three required hospital transfers. One of them, they said, was a one year old girl.

The one year old was transferred in critical condition to Mexico City for further medical treatment February 11, 2026.

The girl was intubated and in intensive care. She was initially transported by ambulance to the General Hospital of Cancun, however, she requires further medical care.

On Wednesday, medical specialists arrived to assist with her transfer to Mexico City. She was taken from the Cancun hospital and transferred to the airport where a plane was waiting to send her to a hospital in Mexico City for specialized burn treatment.

The other two people that were burned in the apartment gas explosion are reported to be in serious condition. Both remain in hospital in Cancun.
