Gilberto Gomez Martinez wins Puerto Aventuras reelection as mayor

Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — Gilberto Gomez Martinez has been reelected the Mayor of Puerto Aventuras. On Sunday, Thousands turned out for the town’s election of a new mayor.

Luis Herrera Quiam, the General Secretary of the Municipality of Solidaridad, highlighted the importance of the democratic exercise. “We recognize the commitment of the inhabitants of Puerto Aventuras to go to the polls and we reaffirm the support of the municipality to guarantee a transparent and safe process,” he said.

People began to line up early outside the voting booths set up inside three of the town’s elementary schools. There, they cast their ballot for the Mayor’s Office of Puerto Aventuras, corresponding to the period 2024-2027.

The Operating Commission of the Neighborhood Assembly for the Election of Members of the Mayor’s Office of Puerto Aventuras was chaired by Luis Herrera Quiam. Herrera Quiam was at the site to supervise the election process.

According to statistics released at the end of the day, Gilberto Gomez Martinez, the town’s first-ever mayor, won reelection. Running candidates Gabriela Isabel Moreno won a total of 392 votes, while Dámaris del Carmen Ortega won 353 of the town’s votes.

After a count, Herrera Quiam declared Gilberto Gómez the winner. Gomez Martinez, who won with 2,818 votes, will continue his work and remain in office until 2027.
