Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Q.R. — A former mayor and current political candidate of Felipe Carrillo Puerto has been arrested. José “N”, who was mayor of Felipe Carrillo Puerto between 2018-2021, has been arrested for illicit use of power.
According to the State Attorney General (FGE) of Quintana Roo, he “was arrested for his alleged participation in events that could constitute the crime of illicit use of powers and powers of the public service.”
In their statement, the FGE said “he is accused of allegedly simulating Council sessions to illegally authorize year-end bonuses which generated a loss to the municipal coffers in the amount of 2.6 million pesos.”
The arrest was carried out by elements of the Investigative Police Monday from outside a hotel in Felipe Carrillo Puerto. On December 14, 2021, the new incoming mayor of Felipe Carrillo Puerto filed an FGE, FGR and Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office complaint against him on allegations of the diversion of resources.
José “N” is currently running for the Felipe Carrillo Puerto mayor’s position in the upcoming June 2 elections.
