Five transferred to Cozumel hospital after catamaran propeller mishap

Cozumel, Q.R. — Five people were transferred to Cozumel hospital Sunday after making contact with a propeller. The five on board a snorkeling catamaran were attempting to get on the boat when their calves made contact with the propeller.

According to information provided by Alfredo Arellano Villaseñor, the Cozumel Director of Civil Protection, the injuries sustained were not life-threatening and do not endanger any limbs.

Municipal Police of Cozumel have confirmed the accident happened on catamaran Capitano Primero after snorkeling the Colombia reef near the island of Cozumel Sunday afternoon. The five injured are reported to be four tourists of Argentina nationality and one Mexican national.

They were transferred by the catamaran to a dock where authorities were waiting. Ambulances transferred the injured to hospital while police secured the catamaran.

Arellano Villaseñor said that Investigative Police from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) will carry out the investigation to clarify what happened.
