Cancun, Q.R. — Five people were shot and killed by a group of men in a strip club in Cancun over the weekend in what police are calling a targeted attack.
The shooting took place at the La Kuka bar located on López Portillo Avenue in Supermanzana 60 in Cancun. According to witnesses, four subjects entered the establishment with weapons, opening fire and killing five people.
Five people were also left injured in the attack, all of whom were taken to hospital with two being in serious condition. Police report that during their investigation, three different-sized ammunition cartridges were found at the scene.
In a press conference, the State Attorney General Oscar Montes de Oca Rosales said, “Regarding the multi-homicide that occurred in a bar on Lopez Portillo Avenue, we want to inform the public that four subjects probably participated, three of them carried short weapons and one of them a long weapon.
“They threatened the security employee who was in the entrance and entered and fired on a group of seven people who occupied a table then shot at other customers,” explained Oscar Montes de Oca.
The shooting left five dead and five injured.
“The attack was aimed at this group of people mostly from the state of Tamaulipas, which is why their work and social environment is being analyzed to determine the reason for their presence in the city,” he added.
Montes de Oca Rosales also said that they are aware that drug trafficking activities were taking place at the bar and that one of the hypotheses is that the now deceased were confused with drug dealers from another group.
He says that investigations continue.
