Puerto Aventuras, Q.R. — The construction of a new civic plaza in the town of Puerto Aventuras has been started. Solidaridad Mayor Estefanía Mercado began the project as part of the 15 announced shortly before taking over as mayor in September.
The first stone of the up-and-coming plaza was laid by both Solidaridad Mayor Estefanía Mercado and Puerto Aventuras Mayor Gilberto Gómez Martínez.
The new civic plaza will be a family space with a play area for kids, universal accessibility, benches, a multifunctional stage, a flagpole, green space and an area for local merchants.
“The most important thing to know is that this is more than just a project. It is the first step in a comprehensive transformation. We took this proposal from the Dialogues of Transformation because we know that the voice of the people will be the protagonist of this government,” she said.
Estefanía Mercado explained that this project, which is the first of many to be carried out in Puerto Aventuras, is a symbol of development and prosperity being built in Solidaridad.
“Puerto Aventuras will never again be a town hall for show. Today we are fulfilling that promise,” Mercado said at the ceremony accompanied by Gómez Martínez.
Mayor Gilberto Gómez thanked Mercado on behalf of the residents. “With this project, residents will be dignified thanks to such a beautiful civic plaza where the families of Puerto Aventuras will be able to live together in a healthy way,” he said.
According to Mercado, construction of the Puerto Aventuras Civic Plaza will cost more than 10 million pesos. In September, Mercado announced 15 projects would be started within her first 100 days as mayor of Playa del Carmen.
